Individual Communication

Until today no communications have been brought by individuals to the attention of the Committee in relation to the human rights situation in Western Sahara.

It is worth noting that Morocco did not ratify the first optional Protocol to the Covenant preventing the Committee to receive and consider communications by individuals who claims to be victims of a violation of a Covenant’s provision by Morocco. Therefore, Saharawi people who are under the jurisdiction of Morocco and who claim to have suffered a violation set forth in the Convenant cannot submit an individual communication to the Human Rights Committee.

Morocco did not make neither the declaration required by Art. 41 ICCPR enabling the Committee to receive and consider communications by another State Party on the violation of the Covenant by Morocco.
