The Periodic Report Mechanism

In order to monitor the respect of obligations that arise from the Convention, a Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women was set up.

Every four years States parties are called to submit to the Committee a national report on measures they have taken to achieve equality between women and men. These reports are examined by the Committee, whose experts meet Government representatives at each of its sessions to discuss the report and obtain additional information in those fields they deem appropriate. At the end of the evaluation process, it makes recommendations to the State under review for improving the situation of human rights of women in the country.

To facilitate the respect of the Convention by States parties, the Committee may adopt general recommendations on specific provisions.
