The Periodic Review Mechanism

The Convention established a Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination that verifies that its obligations are respected by States parties.

One of its main function is considering the reports submitted by States parties every two years on the legislative, judicial, administrative or other measures which they have adopted to give effect to the provisions of the Convention.

This process ends with the adoption of the concluding observations on the report under exam by the Committee. Under Art. 9 of the Convention, States parties are entitled to make comments on the suggestions or recommendations made by the Committee.
