Individual Communication

Until today no communications have been brought by individuals to the attention of the Committee in relation to the human rights situation in Western Sahara.

It is worth noting that Morocco ratified the Optional Protocol in 2009. Being in force the Optional Protocol, an individual under the jurisdiction of Morocco who claims to have suffered a violation of a Convention’s provision may submit a communication to the Committee. Until today no communications related to Western Sahara situation have been submitted by individuals to the Committee.

In the case of individuals who are under the jurisdiction of Morocco and believe that Morocco has violated the rights protected by the Convention, they may submit a claim to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

To submit a complaint to the mentioned Committees, the following forms should be filled: Guidelines for submission of communications to the CRPD.

Once the form is filled, it must be sent to one of the following adresses:

  • by mail: Petitions and Inquiries Section – Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights / United Nations Office at Geneva, 1211 Geneva 10, Switzerland.
  • by e-mail: petitions[at]ohchr.org

In a urgent context, a petition may be sent also by fax to + 41 22 917 90 22.
