Under Art. 34 of the Convention, a Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was established in order to control the respect of the obligations enshrined in the Convention. It consists of twelve experts who are elected for a term of four years.
According to Art. 35, its main function is receiving and considering the reports that each State party has the obligation to forward to the Committee every four years mentioning all measures taken to give effect to the Convention. When the Committee considers a report, it makes suggestions and recommendations which are transmitted to the State Party concerned. The latter has the right to formulate any comments it considers appropriate in response to the Committee’s concluding observations.
