Agreements in force

Among the countries in the area, EU is Morocco’s first trading partner.

On 1 March 2000 an Association agreement between the EU and Morocco entered into force. In addition to the gradual creation of a free trade area, it provides for many areas of cooperation in political, economic, social, scientific and cultural matters. See the text of the Council and Commission Decision of 24 January 2000 on the conclusion of the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Kingdom of Morocco, of the other partAssociation agreement.

Within this context, other specific agreements were negotiated such as:

  • Fisheries Partnership Agreement entered into force on 28 February 2007. Among its aims, it call for the establishment of “economic, financial, technical and scientific cooperation in the fisheries sector with a view to introducing responsible fishing in Moroccan fishing zones to guarantee the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources and develop the Moroccan fisheries sector” (art. 1). See Fisheries Partnership Agreement.
  • Agreement on agricultural, processed agricultural and fisheries products entered into force on 1 October 2012. It provides for the reciprocal liberalisation measures on agricultural products, processed agricultural products, fish and fishery products. See EU-Morocco Agreement.

More information are available in the Strategy paper 2007-2013 on the relations between EU and Morocco.
